Count value you expect to use

Do not enter a benefit's advertised value unless you realistically expect to use it.

Use the cash value you expect per dollar of eligible spend.

Estimated value after the annual fee

Reward value

Usable benefits

Annual fee

This is an estimated value, not cash in hand. Interest, overspending, unused benefits, caps, exclusions, and redemption choices can reduce real value.

Formula

Rewards + usable benefits − annual fee

The calculator values rewards as annual eligible spend multiplied by the entered reward-value rate. Only benefits you realistically expect to use belong in the benefit field.

Carrying a balance changes the picture

Interest and fees are not included here. If rewards encourage extra spending or a balance accrues interest, those costs can erase the estimated value.

Worked example

At $12,000 in annual eligible spend and a 2% value rate, estimated reward value is $240. Add $100 of benefits you expect to use and subtract a $95 annual fee for an estimated net value of $245.

Why listed benefit value can mislead

A statement credit, lounge visit, or insurance feature has value only when you qualify, complete the required action, and would otherwise have paid for something comparable. Do not automatically count the marketing maximum.

Educational scope

This tool compares entered values. It does not recommend a particular product, value points for you, or account for taxes, redemption availability, caps, exclusions, interest, or opportunity cost.
