Your estimated utilization is

What the result means

One ratio, not a score prediction

The calculator uses this formula:

reported balance ÷ credit limit × 100

A result can help you understand the proportion of the selected limit that is represented by the selected balance. Credit reports may use balances reported on dates that do not match your payment due date.

Important limitation

No fixed utilization percentage guarantees a score increase, approval, or a particular lender decision. Scoring models and issuer reporting practices differ.

Worked example

If the reported balance is $1,250 and the matching total limit is $5,000, the estimated utilization is 25%.

Balances above the limit

The tool permits a balance above the stated limit because fees, interest, a reduced limit, or an input mismatch can create that situation. It will show a warning instead of rejecting the calculation.

Source and assumptions

For general background, see the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau explanation of credit utilization. Check current credit reports and issuer records for the balances and limits actually reported.

This educational estimate uses dollars rounded to cents internally. It does not store, analyze, or transmit the numbers you enter.
